Beginner Level: Introduction to Touch Typing

Course Overview

Students will learn the fundamentals of touch typing—typing without looking at the keyboard—using proper finger placement and simple, repetitive practice. Tools like Edutyping.com

Module 1: Understanding the Keyboard

  • Identifying letters, numbers, and keys

  • Introduction to the QWERTY layout

  • Learning correct sitting posture

  • Proper hand positioning

Module 2: Home Row Keys

  • Finger placement (ASDF / JKL;)

  • Practicing simple patterns

  • Building muscle memory

  • Slow and accurate typing

Module 3: Top Row & Bottom Row

  • Reaching for upper keys (QWERTY row)

  • Reaching for lower keys (ZXCV row)

  • Returning to home row position

  • Repetition exercises

Module 4: Basic Words & Sentences

  • Typing simple words

  • Building short sentences

  • Practicing spacing and punctuation

  • Improving accuracy before speed

Module 5: Introduction to Speed & Accuracy

  • Timed typing (short intervals)

  • Tracking progress visually

  • Encouraging consistency

  • Reducing frustration

Beginner Practice Project

  • Type a short paragraph (3–5 sentences)

  • Focus on:

    • Accuracy

    • Proper finger placement

    • Consistent spacing

Advanced Level: Touch Typing Mastery

Course Overview

Students will increase typing speed, accuracy, and independence while applying typing skills to real-world tasks.

Module 1: Speed Development

  • Increasing words per minute (WPM)

  • Timed exercises

  • Maintaining accuracy at higher speeds

  • Personal goal setting

Module 2: Accuracy & Error Correction

  • Identifying common mistakes

  • Slowing down to improve precision

  • Practicing difficult key combinations

  • Self-correction strategies

Module 3: Numbers & Special Characters

  • Typing numbers efficiently

  • Using shift key for symbols

  • Practicing punctuation and formatting

  • Real-world typing examples

Module 4: Real-World Typing Skills

  • Typing emails and messages

  • Writing paragraphs and short reports

  • Filling out forms

  • Copy typing from text

Module 5: Independent Typing Practice

  • Using typing programs independently

  • Tracking personal progress

  • Building daily typing habits

  • Increasing endurance

Module 6: Functional Application

  • Combining typing with schoolwork

  • Using typing in other programs (Word, email, etc.)

  • Improving productivity and independence
